You are good at what you do, heck you’re probably even great at what you do. But are you great at promoting your chauffeured ground transportation company on social media?  From our experience, most are not.  Here are some quick tips on what to avoid posting on social media.

1. DON’T POST UPDATES THAT ARE TOO LONG IN LENGTH.

On Facebook and LinkedIn, where you have more latitude on the length of your posts, longer is NOT better.  One sentence is more than enough to get your point across.  On Twitter, anything longer than 140 characters will truncate and that turns prospects off.  Plainly, posts that are too long, on any social media platform, will result in putting your audience to sleep.  Not a good thing when you’re looking for engagement.

2. DON’T OVERUSE HASHTAGS (OR USE HASHTAGS ON FACEBOOK)

Studies and anecdotes have shown that tweets with more than two hashtags result in a drop in engagement and become much less likely to be retweeted.  Hashtag useage on Facebook, although cute to some, is mostly viewed as annoying by the majority of Facebook users. If you DO use hashtags on Twitter, one of the two hashtags you use should be your name.

3. DON’T USE BAD GRAMMAR OR MISSPELLED WORDS

There is nothing worse than seeing an update that either has missing or incorrect punctuation (There’s a famous example of the importance of punctuation: Woman without her man is nothing.  OR is it… Woman: without her, man is nothing.  OR is it… Woman, without her man, is nothing.  Clearly the punctuation changes the meaning drastically.)  Make sure your updates are spelled correctly and that they make sense.  Recently I saw an update on Facebook from a rather large operator which said, and I am not making this up: “I am fond of cars. long drive is my passion. speed is my nature. have a look (with a link to their website)” This not only doesn’t make sense, but doesn’t even apply to the point of what a chauffeured ground transportation company does.
