On June 18, the New England Livery Association (NELA) hosted their summer membership meeting at Kowloon Restaurant in Saugus, Mass. Attracting 60 members and guests from the Northeast, the event came hot on the heels of the association’s always-popular Chauffeur Appreciation Day. The dinner meeting hosted guest speakers, including Deputy Director, Transportation Operations, Logan Airport Michael Hadley and Becky Laramee of All Points Limousine and Laramee Tax and Accounting Services.

The meeting was kicked off by NELA Executive Director Rick Szilagyi of Lexian Management, who thanked Platinum Sponsors Volvo Cars of Exeter and Grech Motors, as well as Gold Sponsor Dav El/BostonCoach, for their support. He then welcomed NELA/National Limousine Association (NLA) President Brett Barenholtz of Above All/Maine Limousine who shared news about the NLA’s recent successes as well as the association’s presence at the upcoming Global Business Travel Association conference to promote NLARide.

Longtime NELA ally Hadley was then given the floor to speak to the attendees about updates at Logan International Airport, including changes at Terminal E (the international terminal). He revealed that pickup fees would be increasing to provide funding for ongoing airport renovations. Additionally, Hadley shared that proposed curbside driver waiting area at the international terminal had been squashed by the airport officials “in light of recent global events.”

Next, Szilagyi welcomed Laramee, who offered financial and tax-related insights and strategies.

“Becky provided priceless tax hints and opportunities to our members,” says Szilagyi. “Her knowledge is vast, and she delivered tax information colored specifically for the livery industry.”

In addition to acting as the evening’s master of ceremonies, Szilagyi also served as a de facto auctioneer during a fundraising portion of the dinner. NELA Board Member Patrick Enxing of Pat’s Car Service donated a pair of boxing gloves signed by famed area boxer Mickey Ward, whose life story was featured in the award-winning hit film The Fighter. The bidding was fast and furious between Terry Murtaugh of United Private Car and Kevin Cronin of Above All Transportation. Ultimately the duo “split” the pair of gloves, each taking one home with a $700 bid.
