VLA Seeks Clarity on D.C. Compliance Issues

Virginia Limousine Association (VLA)

VLAMembers of the VLA board recently met with D.C. for Hire representatives at a productive meeting

The Virginia Limousine Association (VLA) held its Q3 Membership Meeting on Tuesday, August 25, at the Hampton Inn in Alexandria. Twenty members and guests were in attendance to collaborate to address ongoing obstacles faced when operating across state lines. Demonstrating unity and commitment to industry advocacy, VLA members participated in a second meeting on August 26 with Washington, D.C. Department for Hire officials.

VLA President Bill Kerr of Camryn Executive Transportation said that Tuesday evening’s meeting served as “preparation” for Wednesday morning’s collaboration with the D.C. for Hire representatives.

VLAVLA welcomed 20 members to its quarterly membership meeting

“We are looking for a standard definition of what the Department is looking for with out of state vehicles, since many of our members are getting pulled over and receiving summonses,” says Kerr. “It is our goal that all VLA members are in compliance with D.C. for Hire at all times.”

Both meetings were productive and generated valuable dialogue, resulting in meaningful outcomes that support our members and strengthen cross‑jurisdictional operations.

“We were fortunate enough to meeting with an assistant chief of D.C. for Hire on Wednesday,” adds Kerr. “She informed us that all vehicles are subject to on-site safety inspections. Again, we just want to make sure our members are in compliance.”

The VLA also announced two new members to its growing board of directors: Glenn Stafford of Stafford/Love Limousine and Len Joseph of On The Town Limousines, who will serve as an affiliate member of the board. In addition, the association is looking to have another meeting with Washington, D.C., officials on September 16, for a discussion on enforcement. Kerr hopes to have a robust attendance at the meeting. Furthermore, the VLA will be holding a general membership meeting at the CD/NLA Fall Show in National Harbor. All are welcome to attend the Monday event at 8:15 a.m.
