Rockville, Md. — For-hire transportation fleet operators will head to Alaska from July 12-15 for the annual leadership conference hosted by the Taxicab, Limousine & Paratransit Association (TLPA). Hosted in Anchorage, the TLPA Mid-Year International Leadership Conference will kick off with a cocktail reception for all attendees on July 12. The following day will feature two general sessions and a breakfast and lunch open to all attendees. The TLPA will also hold a board meeting on July 14.
This is the first time in more than two decades that the TLPA has hosted a meeting in Alaska. The conference will be held at the distinctive Hotel Captain Cook in Anchorage. With views of Cook Inlet and the Chugach Mountains, the distinctive Hotel Captain Cook was recently inducted into the Historic Hotels of America, the official travel organization of the National Trust for Historic Preservation.
Bill Scalzi, President A special room rate of $260 per night is being offered to the attendees. The room block expires on June 10 or whenever it seels out, whichever comes first. Attendees are encouraged to book their travel early.

Operators who are new to TLPA can now take advantage of a 50 percent discount on membership dues for 2017.

Newark, N.J. — Six companies hailing from South Jersey have recently joined the Limousine Association (LANJ) of New Jersey during the month of May. In recent months, LANJ has made a concentrated effort to appeal to operators from that region and address the issues faced by companies in South Jersey. The new members are:

- ETA Worldwide of Berlin
- Joe’s Limousine Service of Mullica Hill
- Lacey Limousines of Waretown
- Riverfront Limousine Service of Penns Grove
- Thomas Limousine of Turnersville
Pete Corelli, Director“The association has noticed that the participation from the southern part of the state was weak,” said LANJ Director Pete Corelli of Lakeview Custom Coach. “So we decided to hold some mini-meetings down south to let them know that their concerns about the industry would be heard. They were appreciative of us making an effort to listen.” Corelli also stressed that the needs and problems are more likely to be met and solved if there is a single voice in the state, as all operators want to keep the industry strong and safe.
LANJ Director Bob Schiavo of Albert’s Limousine is pleased to see new members joining and taking advantage of the benefits of being part of the association. “We have just won a huge legislative battle to get sales tax removed from our services, and being a part of LANJ is good way to stay on top of TNC updates. The membership fee is a small price to pay for the rewards, especially our tax exemption on vehicles, parts, and labor.”
LANJ is also in the midst of planning their first golf outing, scheduled for Monday, September 18, at the Cherry Valley Country Club in Skillman, N.J. The association looks forward to making this an annual event that will attract operators from across the state.

East Elmhurst, N.Y — On May 17, the Black Car Assistance Corporation (BCAC) held a Membership Meeting at the LaGuardia Plaza Hotel, which was sponsored by NuRide Management Group, LLC.
The day’s agenda had numerous important topics up for discussion, such as the construction-induced traffic issues at LaGuardia International Airport (LGA) and statewide TNC expansion details.
Regarding updates to the arrangement at LGA, the new FHV Pick-Up Area will be closing daily from 10 PM to 6 AM as of May 20. While the lot is closed, all FHVs will be able to conduct pick-up operations at Terminal B at the departures level only. The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PANYNJ) will place additional traffic guards on both the arrival and departure levels of Terminal B to manage the traffic, while both Port Authority Police and the Taxi & Limousine Commission will continue to conduct Hustler Enforcement in front of the Terminal.

The Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (PANYNJ) has created a system to make it simpler for passengers to meet their chauffeurs at Terminal B's departure level under the new new plan. There will now be signage with numbers ranging from 1 to 7 across all of the departure level’s structural columns: BCAC advises all operators to tell their clients the number column where they can meet up with their chauffeurs.
If any chauffeurs encounter a problem with the new arrangements, BCAC urges operators to email BCAC Executive Director Ira Goldstein at igoldstein@nybcac.org.
BCAC also announced that it has launched its updated, more user-friendly website. The new site aims to unite its members even further, introduces offerings like the BCAC Member Forum, which will serve as a message board exclusively for BCAC members.
Also newly updated is the BCAC Membership Application. The online form can be found at nybcac.org/prospective-members and aims to make submission simpler.
