Businesses are often targets of fraud and other nefarious activities, but in this case, Massachusetts-based Boston Chauffeur was the hero for one of their customers—with a happy ending for all involved.

Boston Chauffeur CEO Mark Kini recounts a recent incident last month where his keen-eared team not only recognized that their customer was likely being scammed but also sprung into action to avoid her being taken for possibly thousands of dollars.

According to Kini, it started with a simple call: An elderly woman called their office from her home landline, asking for a ride to a local Lowe's Home Improvement store. It was all routine until BC Reservation Agent Nick picked up on something in the background. On another line, the woman was on her cellphone, being coached step by step by someone posing as a trusted contact. The passenger was to go to Lowe's, purchase several gift cards, and if anyone asked, say they were gifts for family members.

Kini says that Nick recognized the pattern of classic gift-card scam immediately, the kind that often targets seniors. Determined to help his customer, Nick recruited the support of Team Lead Ryan, who reached out to the woman to gently but clearly explain that she was likely being scammed. He didn't stop there: He also called the Lowe's store in Danvers to give them a heads-up about what might be happening, just in case she still made her way there.

Sadly, she did manage to get to the store, but thanks to Ryan's quick thinking, the Lowe's staff was ready. Their employees stepped in, declined the sale, and notified local police about the incident. Thanks to all involved, a vulnerable member of the Boston area community avoided what could have been a devastating financial loss.

Naturally, Kini says that he is incredibly proud of his team for this moment—not because it was part of any job description, but because it wasn't. Nick and Ryan didn't have to make those extra calls. They chose to, because they genuinely cared about the person on the other end of the line.

“Boston Chauffeur has spent 26 years serving Boston and the surrounding communities, and moments like this remind us why that work matters. We're not just a transportation company. We're neighbors, and we look out for the people who support us—one ride, one phone call, one act of care at a time,” says Kini.

Now that’s what we call a feel-good story. Way to go, Nick and Ryan!
