Golden Limousine International has officially launched a Department of Labor-approved Motorcoach Apprenticeship Program, designed to train and certify Michigan's next generation of professional motorcoach operators. The program provides CDL holders with a clear, competency-based pathway to become fully certified motorcoach operators, advancing their careers through hands-on learning and mentorship.

Unlike traditional time-based apprenticeships, Golden's program focuses on skill mastery and progression. Apprentices advance only after demonstrating proficiency, ensuring they are fully prepared to meet the high standards of safety, professionalism, and client care expected of a certified motorcoach operator at Golden or elsewhere.

"Motorcoach operators are skilled tradespeople, and as a luxury brand, we must have a training culture. This apprenticeship creates that standard," says Golden Limousine HR Specialist Peter Jonik.

Developed to address a growing shortage of qualified motorcoach drivers in Michigan, the program combines classroom instruction, supervised drive time, and job shadowing:

  • 40 hours of classroom instruction on regulations, safety, and customer service
  • 20 hours of job shadowing with experienced operators
  • 60 hours of supervised driving in a full-size motorcoach
  • MCI Academy coursework leading to a Master Motorcoach Operator Certification

Each paid apprentice is paired with a dedicated mentor who provides ongoing guidance and tracks progress throughout the program. Graduates receive both US Department of Labor certification and a Master Motorcoach Operator certificate from MCI Academy, and are not required to stay with Golden upon graduation.
