MLOA Marketing and Association Brand Ambassador Philip Jagiela kicked off the meeting before turning the wheel over to President Maurice Brewster of Mosaic Global Transportation, who thanked the sponsors, board members, and supporters who make not only the gathering but also the association’s future possible.
The morning gathering hosted two speakers. Barbara Oliver of MBE Magazine, who’s also on the MLOA advisory board, discussed the importance of public relations in terms of telling your story correctly and elevating your customers to become loyal fans of your business.
President of Sumnu Marketing Shaundell Newsome then spoke about his own experience growing up in a family-owned business while also covering topics such as knowing your customers’ values and attitudes and the psychological implications that colors play in marketing—such as how orange in logos demonstrates an environment of open discourse.
Members then reviewed MLOA’s 2017 educational webinar schedule, which aims to deliver more of the guidance and hands-on know-how that members have expressed that they feel would be beneficial, as well as the certification that members are finding increasingly helpful in establishing their credibility and expertise. On the immediate horizon is its April 5 session with President/CEO of Western Regional Minority Development Council Cecil Plummer.
To close out the meeting, Jagiela highlighted a free nationwide buying/purchasing program available to any MLOA members in good standing. The program is not only a cooperative of mass-buying power but also offers significant savings on products and services, with the potential to work with big names like FedEx, Staples, Best Buy, OfficeMax, and Pepsico.
At the end of the meeting, representatives from Chosen Payments presented MLOA with a check for more than $2,000.

Orlando, Fla. — The Central Florida Livery Association (CFLA) recently announced that they have secured the CFLA.org domain name for their website. The Orlando-based non-profit organization purchased the domain in an effort to elevate the CFLA brand.
"We always wanted CFLA.org since day one, but our board unfortunately voted against the idea last year due to financial circumstances. It was a bit early for us.” said Wendy Kleefisch, CFLA president.
New CFLA vendor director, Ryan Hilberth, CEO of Rental Limo and Book.Limo, made an effort to spruce up the association’s website's design and encouraged the CFLA to seriously consider acquiring the CFLA.org domain after bringing in new vendor sponsorship money.
"Looking at other marquee limo associations such as the NLA, GCLA, and LANJ using “four-letter dot org” domains, it was a no-brainer that we needed to figure out how to get this domain name ASAP for the CFLA," said Hilberth.
After raising the funds necessary to make the deal happen, the board voted again recently on the CFLA.org initiative, this time deciding to invest heavily in the CFLA's online home once and for all. The association will also give each of their members a personal email under the CFLA.org domain.
In other news, the CFLA held its vendor appreciation meeting on March 7 to allow vendor members a chance to share swag items and an elevator pitch to its members. Battisti Customs sponsored the meeting, and President Bill Battisti was welcomed as guest speaker.
The next CFLA meeting is scheduled for April 11.
